A kitchen in the attic, part of the renovation of a family home in Maranello, Modena province. The open-plan space consists of a dining area with a large twenty-seater table, bar area, fireplace and kitchen, occupying a total of 70 square metres.
The style is an unusual cross between shabby chic with classic walnut furnishings and minimalism, with a focus on clean lines and formal rigour. While the floor remains rustic in character, the old bicottura tiles have been replaced by a backsplash in the same colour as the worktop, creating a chromatic continuity that continues in volumetric terms. The doors of the cabinets, free of handles and with grooved opening, echo the rhythmic pattern of the ceiling slats, with milling every fifteen centimetres and painted in milk-white.
Quartz from Stone Italiana’s Micro collection was chosen both for the kitchen top and backsplash and for a second worktop with a front riser. The top was shaped on site in the corner next to the window, echoing an indentation in the furniture.
The Micro collection is characterised by neutral, contemporary colours, almost all in cooler shades. The Grain 2.0 finish (2 centimetres thick) in Greige used here establishes a sharp dialogue with the dominant white of the furnishings, emphasising their volumes.
The aesthetic qualities are accompanied by technical advantages. Stone Italiana slabs in reconstituted quartz are resistant to scratches, impacts and even the toughest stains. As a non-porous material, quartz is naturally resistant to penetration by liquids, foods and bacteria, making Stone Italiana surfaces exceptionally safe in terms of hygiene as well as easy to clean, two essential characteristics in an extremely busy place like a kitchen.
