In high-traffic commercial spaces, flooring is not just an aesthetic choice—it’s a technical component put to the test every day. At MegaBox, one of Hong Kong’s busiest shopping complexes, 880 m² of Stone Italiana flooring was installed in restrooms and common areas—spaces that see millions of footfalls each year and undergo intensive cleaning cycles.
The specifications called for materials capable of withstanding aggressive detergents and acidic substances without compromising their appearance, color, or finish. The solution came in the form of Terrazzo White and Terrazzo Base: two terrazzo-effect colors that combine high chemical resistance, durability, and ease of maintenance. Terrazzo White adorns the sink countertops in the restrooms, while Terrazzo Base covers the flooring in high-traffic areas, where the mineral grain hides the marks of daily foot traffic and maintains a uniform appearance even over large areas.
The compactness of the surface, which has no open pores, limits absorption and simplifies cleaning: a crucial requirement in an environment where cleaning is performed multiple times a day, using products that would leave streaks and cause dulling on other materials.
This project demonstrates in practice what Stone Italiana has been developing since 1979: composite mineral surfaces manufactured in Italy, designed to withstand the most demanding environments in the international contract sector.
